5 Ways to Improve Digestion

Here are 5 ways that I have improved my digestion and you can too. I’m the queen of digestive issues. I lived many years of my life fighting chronic constipation and bloating. I had LOTS of health issues to go with it. I struggled with ailments like allergies, ear infections, colds and more. Over 70% of our immune system is found in the gut. When our digestive system is working properly then a lot of other things in our body work properly too. When my kids get sick, then we look to improving their gut first.

Here are 5 things that I’ve learned that improve digestion:

1. Drink a lot of water! Our bodies are made up of mostly water. Water is more important than food. We can survive a whole lot longer without food, but water we simply need.

2. Supplement with a good probiotic. Probiotics are amazing to keep the gut flora healthy. Do your research on which probiotic to use. Don’t buy a low quality probiotic. The one that I LOVE and trust is here. We like it because it has a prebiotic that releases in the stomach and a second capsule that releases in the intestines where probiotics should go. I even rotate where I get probiotics to keep my gut flora happy and healthy with many different microorganisms.

3. Add digestive enzymes to your regimen. As we age, our bodies stop producing enzymes to break down our cooked food. When we add digestive enzymes when consuming cooked food then it aids our body in breaking the food down better thus inhibiting digestion.

4. Feed your gut bacteria with good foods. Eating a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, fermented foods like sauerkraut, kimchee, sea vegetables, and beans can be very helpful in maintaining good gut flora.

5. Avoid gluten and processed foods. Eat the rainbow! If we are eating different colors of the rainbow then we will be sure to avoid lots of these processed foods. Even gluten free foods can be too much and overload the system with additives. When choosing grains, choose whole grains like millet, quinoa, or oats. Try to avoid processed foods like bagels, breads and donuts.

Whenever your digestive system is weighing you down, check out this list and see what small changes that you can incorporate to help aid your digestion. Sometimes, post holidays are a good time to refocus on improving our gut health. Our bodies will thank us and you never know, maybe you will experience more vibrant health like me. I no longer struggle with allergies, chronic constipation or earaches. Watch your health concerns wither away.
