Joy

Joy is a feeling of great pleasure. What brings joy in your life? It is an emotion that I pray over my children and husband. It is an emotion that I grapple with. We all have our ups and downs in life; we struggle with many emotions.

I have one particular child that is the joy in my life. Our whole family would agree that she is full of it. When we are sad….she comes along and says, “God will take care of it.” When we are happy she’s there to celebrate with you. When we are sick she comes to our rescue praying for us telling us that God will heal us. Daily hugs are given with BIG, “I LOVE YOU’s” especially when your day isn’t going well. This little girl is FULL of life. Hakuna Matata means no worries in Swahili and this youngster has no worries. When she is around you, you have no worries either. Her faith is HUGE. She is a bundle of joy! Psalm 105:43 “He brought forth His people with Joy.”

Since our negative emotions can be habit forming, as human nature would have it, we remember the negative. We focus on what is going wrong instead of what is going right. Are you stuck with this negativity? Are you allowing Satan to steal your joy? Do you  have feelings of depression or sadness? What is the attitude that you carry?

I ask myself the above questions when I notice my negativity. Our attitude is up to us. Will I allow my circumstances to control my attitude? When we have negative emotions we can pray for God’s love to surround us and lavish us with unspeakable joy. Here’s a guide to a prayer that we might pray to ask the Lord to show us our demeanor and guide us along our path and to free us from depression and/or sadness.

Lord,

May you give the gift of joy and may the gift of joy rise up in our heart and may we know the fullness of joy that is found in Your presence. True happiness and joy are only found in you.  Help us to decide to walk in joy. Remind us frequently that  ” This is the day that the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24) In your presence is fullness of joy and may we walk in it. May your word firmly be planted in our hearts and may you increase our faith daily.

Amen
