Crock Pot Baked Beans

 

Are you ready for summer picnics and family reunions? This Baked Bean recipe is just enough sweetness to delight the senses. It is the Pork and Beans minus the pork. This is one of my family’s favorite bean dishes!

Crock Pot Baked Beans Recipe
INGREDIENTS:

2 cups of dried great northern beans

1″ Kombu leaf

Sort through beans and remove any rocks etc. Rinse the beans and drain. Place drained beans in a bowl and soak overnight. Drain. In a large pot, place beans and Kombu leaf crumbled with enough water to cover the beans. Bring to a boil and simmer for 2 hours or until beans are soft. 

Drain the beans.

Separately, mix this sauce:

For the sauce:

2/3 cup fruit sweetened ketchup

1/2 cup maple syrup

1/2 tsp dry mustard

1/4 cup dark molasses

1/8 cup apple cider vinegar

2 cloves garlic peeled and minced

1/2 sweet onion, chopped

1 tsp salt (optional)

pinch of Cayenne

1 cup of pure water

Place drained beans in a crock pot with sauce ingredients. Cook on low 10-12 hours or on high for 4-6 hours.
