Top 5 Best Natural Toothpastes

Want to improve your oral health? Switching to an all-natural toothpaste will help. Here are my top 5 best natural toothpastes.

Have you ever considered trying an all-natural toothpaste? Due to the dangerously high amounts of artificial flavors and ingredients in most toothpastes, it’s surprising that more people haven’t switched. So, I’ve researched and compiled a list of my top 5 best natural toothpastes.

All-natural toothpastes most often have the same nutrients and benefits as regular toothpastes, but without the extra synthetic additives.

In fact, you could still brush you teeth with just water; it’s the flossing and brushing that actually remove the bacteria from your mouth (although your breath may not be as fresh if you only use water).
You may be surprised that fluoride, while in most water supplies and toothpastes, is actually not good for you, especially when you swallow and digest it.

So…why avoid fluoride?

Not only is fluoride in most toothpastes now (that children are taught NOT to swallow), it is also present in most tap water systems, which is why we use special filters to remove it. In fact, John Colquhoun, the former Principal Dental Officer of Auckland, New Zealand, was once pro-fluoridation. However, after reviewing the facts, summarized that fluoride does more harm to the body than good.

After researching and trying many all-natural toothpastes, I have created a list of good toothpastes for you and your family!

Side note: Are you bored of water’s flavor? Consider adding some all-natural flavor.

Here are my top 5 best natural toothpastes:

5. Tom’s of Maine Antiplaque and Whitening Fluoride-Free Toothpaste

Tom’s of Maine is one of my favorite natural brands because of their dedication to keep their products free from artificial colors, flavors, fragrances and preservatives. I also really like the their flavor variety. When my kids were littles and just learning to brush their teeth, I used Tom’s kid-friendly strawberry flavor toothpaste. I would be careful though, because some of Tom’s products include fluoride and aluminum, but the ones I linked are fine!

4. Dr. Bronner’s Toothpaste

I’ve been a long-time Dr. Bronner’s product fan, up until I replaced many of those products with doTERRA items. But my opinion still stands! I’ll be the first to admit, I’m a huge sucker for cinnamon toothpaste (and other cinnamon flavored things). Anyways, I recommend Dr. Bronner’s toothpaste because it is fluoride-free and uses 70% organic ingredients. Plus, the cinnamon flavor (a divergent from regular mint flavors) is great.

3. My Magic Mud Activated Charcoal Toothpaste

My eldest daughter saw this toothpaste at an all-natural food store near her school, and had to try it. For those of you interested in keeping up with hipster trends such as brushing your teeth with charcoal (while staying vegan, gluten-free, fluoride free, and SLS-free), this is the toothpaste for you. While it is still debatable that the charcoal whitens your teeth, my daughter swears by it, and therefore recommends this all-natural toothpaste.

2. David’s Natural Toothpaste (peppermint & charcoal)

For an all-natural and environmentally friendly (vegan) option, definitely go for David’s Natural Toothpaste. It is sulfate-free and fluoride-free, but also promises to whiten teeth and remove plaque. This product is also verified by my friends at EWG, the brand itself is a family business and does not test on animals. This product is also one of the least expensive all-natural toothpastes, averaging at $9.95 on Amazon.

1. doTERRA’s On Guard Natural Whitening Toothpaste

Okay, okay, I know what you’re thinking. I’m biased…and I am, but for good reason! doTERRA’s all-natural toothpaste is my #1 favorite, and let me tell you why: Obviously, it is fluoride-free. Secondly, this toothpaste tastes like Christmas. I’m not even kidding, I’ve already mentioned that I’m a HUGE sucker for the Cinnamon, Clove and Wild Orange flavors, but this flavor is still my favorite. The best part is that there are high quality therapeutic-grade essential oils inside this thing. The On Guard blend of oils is fantastic at cleansing bacteria from the teeth, fighting plaque, and whiten teeth with natural whitening agents. So what are you waiting for?

If you’re still on the fence and don’t feel like committing to a whole tube of toothpaste, doTERRA offers sample packets (hallelujah!). It’s how I got my entire family on the cinnamon toothpaste train.

Hope this helps!
